You Can’t Stop People from Dying

A story about two teenagers who have problem with their mentals. They both tried to do suicide on the ledge in their school which is such a coincidence that they met.

Honestly, when I first saw this book, I am not really interested because I thought this book was a book for like primary school. I know we can’t judge a book by it’s cover but I just sometimes can’t help judging the cover.  But when I flipped it and read the back page, I was totally curious about the stories in the pages of the book, that was still wrapped with plastic at that time.

Since I was too curious, i ripped the plastic wrap and read that book. I was totally sure to buy  that book after reading a couple of chapters. Since I want to become a phsychologist,        I like to read books with characters that has unusual personalities so that I  could know more about that human personality.

The whole story is full of complicated scenes between Finch and Violet.

Finch – Theodore Finch is fascinated by death.

Every day he thinks of ways he might die, but every day he also searches for – and manages to find – something to keep him here, and alive, and awake.

All the Bright Places book is full of quotes… but for me, this quote about Finch is the most touching one.

“I know life well enough to know you can’t count on things staying around or standing still, no matter how much you want them to.

You can’t stop people from dying.

You can’t stop them from going away.

You can’t stop yourself from going away either.

I know myself well enough to know that no one else can keep you awake

keep you from sleeping.”

– Finch, All the Bright Places

‘you can’t stop people from dying, you can’t stopthem from going away’.

For me that is so true coz’ if you lose someone from your life, all you want to do is to get them back and rewind all the time you had with that person.

But in reality, you can’t stop them from going away…

Violet – Violet Markey lives for the future,

counting days until graduation, when she can escape her small Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister’s death.

“The problem with people

Is they forget

That most of the time,

It’s the small things

That counts

– Violet, All the Bright Places

Yup ! it’s the small things ”that counts.”

People usually think about the big things while forgettigt the little things.

That’s why, we need to be more concious while facing lots of things in life.

When Finch and Violet met on the ledge of the bell tower at school – six stories above the ground – it’s unclear who save whom***.

Soon it’s only with Violet that Finch can be himself. And it’s only with Finch that Violet forgets to count away the days and starts living them. But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink…

it’s unclear who save whom***

Both of them saved both.

They have different problems, but the same thoughts. All they think of is death.

So when they met on the ledge, they both talked about the reasons they want to do suicide. Finally both thought that they could fix each other’s problem.

All the Bright Places is a New York Bestselling novel by Jennifer Niven.

Jennifer Niven was born at May 14 1968. Besides being an author, she is also the founder of Germ Magazine. Her book, All the Bright Places, won the Goodreads Choice Awards for the category of Best Young Adult Fiction.

My favourite part of the book is when Finch suddenly disappers and makes everyone panick. Then Violet got a text from Finch which is not clear enough of whats he’s saying. But time after time, Violet finally finds out about Finch’s death. There are several places Finch went to before he died. One of them is  He died in Prairieton at the Blue Hole ( a lake in Indiana ) because of holding his breath underwater for too long. This is also a type of suicide which Finch has practised already. He tried to hold his breath while he was taking a bath in the bathtub.

According to Psychology Today, suicide is a tragic event with strong emotional repurcussions for its survivors and for families of its victims.

I really recommend this book especially for young readers which like novels that has many conflicts and problems about life. By reading this book, you can really relate your life to the character’s life. It makes you feel blessed to have a normal mental or have much fewer problems than the characters.
