A story about two teenagers who have problem with their mentals. They both tried to do suicide on the ledge in their school which is such a coincidence that they met.

Honestly, when I first saw this book, I am not really interested because I thought this book was a book for like primary school. I know we can’t judge a book by it’s cover but I just sometimes can’t help judging the cover.  But when I flipped it and read the back page, I was totally curious about the stories in the pages of the book, that was still wrapped with plastic at that time.

Since I was too curious, i ripped the plastic wrap and read that book. I was totally sure to buy  that book after reading a couple of chapters. Since I want to become a phsychologist,        I like to read books with characters that has unusual personalities so that I  could know more about that human personality.

The whole story is full of complicated scenes between Finch and Violet.

Finch – Theodore Finch is fascinated by death.

Every day he thinks of ways he might die, but every day he also searches for – and manages to find – something to keep him here, and alive, and awake.

All the Bright Places book is full of quotes… but for me, this quote about Finch is the most touching one.

“I know life well enough to know you can’t count on things staying around or standing still, no matter how much you want them to.

You can’t stop people from dying.

You can’t stop them from going away.

You can’t stop yourself from going away either.

I know myself well enough to know that no one else can keep you awake

or

keep you from sleeping.”

– Finch, All the Bright Places

‘you can’t stop people from dying, you can’t stopthem from going away’.

For me that is so true coz’ if you lose someone from your life, all you want to do is to get them back and rewind all the time you had with that person.

But in reality, you can’t stop them from going away…

———————————————————————————————

Violet – Violet Markey lives for the future,

counting days until graduation, when she can escape her small Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister’s death.

“The problem with people

Is they forget

That most of the time,

It’s the small things

That counts

– Violet, All the Bright Places

Yup ! it’s the small things ”that counts.”

People usually think about the big things while forgettigt the little things.

That’s why, we need to be more concious while facing lots of things in life.

When Finch and Violet met on the ledge of the bell tower at school – six stories above the ground – it’s unclear who save whom***.

Soon it’s only with Violet that Finch can be himself. And it’s only with Finch that Violet forgets to count away the days and starts living them. But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink…

it’s unclear who save whom***

Both of them saved both.

They have different problems, but the same thoughts. All they think of is death.

So when they met on the ledge, they both talked about the reasons they want to do suicide. Finally both thought that they could fix each other’s problem.

My favourite part of the book is when Finch suddenly disappers and makes everyone panick. Then Violet got a text from Finch which is not clear enough of whats he’s saying. But time after time, Violet finally finds out about Finch’s death. There are several places Finch went to before he died. One of them is  He died in Prairieton at the Blue Hole ( a lake in Indiana ) because of holding his breath underwater for too long. This is also a type of suicide which Finch has practised already. He tried to hold his breath while he was taking a bath in the bathtub.

According to Psychology Today, suicide is a tragic event with strong emotional repurcussions for its survivors and for families of its victims.

I really recommend this book especially for young readers which like novels that has many conflicts and problems about life. By reading this book, you can really relate your life to the character’s life. It makes you feel blessed to have a normal mental or have much fewer problems than the characters.

Diary of a Young Girl

So during the holidays, I went to some places, and one of them is Amsterdam. There is this place in Amsterdam, which I have been wanting to visit since I read a book, which is Anne Frank : The Diary of a Young Little Girl. The place is Anne Frank’s house, where she hid in a secret annex, behind a bookshelf.

It took a while to walk from the hotel, which is Fine Seasons to reach the Anne Frank House. Well, to be honest, quiet tiring to walk around 5 km just to visit that historical place. As soon as I reach there, I was amazed by a very long, almost never-ending queue, about 500m in front of the Anne Frank House. It was 15.00 and it will take juast 30 more minutes for it to close. I regret not visiting it at the morning though. It opened at 9.00 a.m and I was doing a photoshoot with dutch costumes at that time. So then, I gave up. Hope I could visit that place again one day.

Even though I didn’t get into the museum, a picture in the front door won’t be a problem

Who is Anne Frank ?
Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt in 1929, and her parents fled from Nazi Germany to Amsterdam to rescue themselves from the Nazi war. At this point that Anne’s family decided to go into hiding. The Frank family remained in their hiding place from 9 July 1942 to 4 August 1944, together with four other Jews, kept alive with the help of their non-Jewish Dutch office workers. In November 1944 Anne arrived with her sister Margot in Bergen-Belsen, where she fell ill and died of typhus in March 1945.

An old photograph of Anne and her sister, Margot, in 1939.

Why is she famous ?

Anne had hoped to become an author, and during her time in hiding, she wrote several short stories as well as her diary. She kept a diary from 12 June 1942 to 1 August 1944. When Anne’s family was arrested,  Miep, one of the Dutch office workers, found Anne’s diary, which she kept, hoping to return it to Anne after the war. Anne’s father, Otto Frank survived the Holocaust and after he received confirmation that both Margot and Anne were dead, Miep gave him Anne’s diary realising this was Anne’s lasting legacy. After reading its pages, Otto Frank is confused over whether he should publish Anne’s private thoughts. He knew Anne had always wanted to be a writer and he consulted various people about his dilemma. He finally decided to find a publisher for the diary.

Anne Frank’s diary has become famous throughout the world. The diary provides a clear glimpse into the world of a young Jewish girl living in Nazi occupied Holland. Anne wrote diary while hiding from the Nazis in an Amsterdam warehouse. She was just 13 when she and her family went into hiding. For two years the Franks lived in a secret annex at the back Mr Frank’s business premises on Prinsengracht Street. Their living space was hidden by a movable bookshelf.

img_20170206_105055Anne and her family’s hiding place is located behind the bookshelf. Can’t imagine how small it was for four persons to fit in.

From my personal experience, after reading her diary, I am amazed by how she could be so grateful. Maybe our lives could be better than hers, but why could she be more grateful than us. Anne, who hide in the secret annex have a lot of live motivations.

Anne confides her feelings in no one but her diary because her parents did not give much attention to her, as a kid.

An Absolute Movie Freak !

Movies. Who doesn’t like movies ? For me, myself, I am an absolute MOVIE FREAK !! Why ? That’s because I love watching films. That is one of my best mood booster for life. Without movies, my life would be very boring…  Almost every weekend, I go to cinemas with my family to watch new titles that were released on that week. By doing that, it keeps me updated to newest movies…

Talking about movies, one of my favourite title is ‘Sing’. It is a musical animation motion picture. It was just released by 8th of December in Indonesia. Yesterday, I watched the movie and I love it.

Why do I like the movie ?

I like the movie for many reasons. First, I love the flow of the story. It is so organized and that makes the audience understands the movie. Besides the flow of the story, I also like the movie because of the moral. It has a very good moral which is : never give up to do anything that you like. There is one quote I like from the movie. It is :

“ Don’t let fear stop you from doing thing you love“ – Buster Moon

I really recommend you to watch this movie, if you haven’t watch it.

While watching the movie, I cried a lot, laughed a lot and sing a lot too, as this is a musical movie. Some of the characters in the movie are : Buster Moon, Rosita, Mike, Ash, Johnny, Meena and so much more.

Am I addicted to movies ?                                                                                                                         Yup, Absolutely! Now, maybe some people think that watching movies may disturb our studies… Especially, maybe parents. They forbid their kids to watch movies too often… I am not saying that we should watch movies every time, but maybe some of us didn’t realize the benfits of watching movie… Some of the advantages are :

  1. It can improve your vocabulary
  2. Makes you creative and imaginative
  3. Makes you learn some lessons ( from the moral messege of the movie )
  4. Gives you inspirations
  5. For entertainment

How does watching movie change my life?

Movies changed my life in a lot of ways. I became more creative and imaginative. I leaned so many lessons from all movies that I have watched all these times. It makes me feel blessed even more to the Almighty God.

Why am I a movie freak ?

First of all, I think that’s because of genes. My father is a super movie freak that he knows every details in movies. So since I was small, he took me to cinemas to watch movies. He did that even before I could walk. Maybe the first time I went to a cinema is when  I was 8 months old.

Which is better ? Home or cinema ?

Everybody has different oppinions about which is better. But for me myself, I’d rather watch movies in cinemas as it felt more realistic. Maybe it is beacause of the speakers everywhere and also the comfortable seat.

Sundae on Sunday

Getting bored of normal ice cream ? Here is a historical place that foodies must visit. It is located in Jalan Veteran I No. 20 Jakarta. The restaurant is called “ Ragusa Es Italia “

People may ask “Why should I go there ?”. Well, if you ask that, you’re going to know soon.

First things first. Why historical ? It is because it has an old age. It was made in 1932, far before Indonesia’s independence day. Besides that, the architectures are very unique and it is ancient as well. Some say the interiors were made by VOC. The chairs are made from cane and guess what ? It was handmade.

So on Sunday, I went to an ice cream cafe after visiting ‘Museum Gajah’. The cafe is called “Ragusa Es Italia”. It was there since 1932. So it’s been about 84 years. Ragusa was established by two Italian people, Luigie Ragusa and Vincenzo Ragusa. There is a story behind the making of this cafe.

So Luigie Ragusa and Vincenzo Ragusa went to Batavia at the year 1930 to study needlework at the central jakarta. After they graduated, they went to Bandung and met a European woman who had a ranch full of cows. She gave a lot of milk to them which Lugie and Vincenzo use as one of the recipies to make an Italian ice cream, which unexpectadly many people keep buying it. With the help of three brothers, they build the first Ragusa in Jalan Pos ( now called Jalan Naripan ), Bandung. While working on their business, Ragusa was helped by Jo Giok Siaw, a friend in the sewing school.

One of the five brothers, Francesco Ragusa married with Jo Giok Siaw’s daughter named Liliana. On 1970, they hand over their buisness to Liliana’s brother named Buntoro Kurniawan and Sias Mawarni, his wife.

This Italian ice cream company sells seven basic flavours, which are : chocolate, vanilla, mocca, strawberry, nougat, durian and rum raisin. There are some combined flavours too. The names of the ice creams are unique. One of them is called spaghetti ice cream.

The spaghetti ice cream has a shape of a long pasta, called spaghetti, but it is not a spaghetti flavoured ice cream. It is a vanilla ice cream that has a shape of spaghetti and some toppings that make it look like a spaghetti

If you’re hungry, you can buy some foods nearby Ragusa Es Italia. They work together with the street vendors in front of the restaurants. Mostly, they sell traditional foods such as fried rice, fried noodle, ‘Gado – Gado’, ‘Asinan’ and so much more ?

So now, you know where to go when you need some refreshments, right ?
